CJ Pearce Involved In Victorian Government Project

Bentleigh Level Crossing Removal

The Bentleigh Level Crossing Removal was part of the Victorian Government’s Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP), which aimed to eliminate dangerous and congested crossings across Melbourne. Specifically, the crossing at Centre Road, Bentleigh was removed in 2016 by lowering the rail line below the road. This project also included the construction of a new Bentleigh Station, which opened in the same year.

The Bentleigh crossing removal was part of the North-McKinnon-Centre (NMC) package, which involved removing three crossings along the Frankston Line—Centre Road, Bentleigh; McKinnon Road, McKinnon; and North Road, Ormond. Approximately 2.5 km of at-grade track was replaced with rail cuttings up to 8 meters deep, retained by piled retaining walls. The project required innovative construction techniques to address geotechnical challenges and minimize community impact in residential areas.

The primary contractor for this project was John Holland, working within an alliance that included KBR and other partners. InfraBuild provided construction solutions, including BAMTEC® prefabricated products, which improved safety and efficiency by reducing on-site labor requirements
